A new WSOD

Built to the original 'W Boat' design a new West Solent One Design takes shape.
Over the last eighteen months, boatbuilder Peter Nash has been busy building a beautiful WSOD on the banks of the river Dart.Built entirely from original plans it carries all the beautiful lines of these classic 'W boats' that were originally built between the years of 1923 and 1933 by Berthon Boat Company in Lymington.
Having been involved in supplying a number of rigs for these classics over recent years, Ed Burnett drew the rig and fittings, and slowly over the last year we have been putting it all together. Without the normal rush which is so often the case, her 46' Spruce mast was sized and hollowed early in 2009, glued together last summer and finally shaped just after Christmas this year; the perfect scenario, allowing the timber to settle over time. Her new owner, a past customer and friend of Collars, wished to keep her as original as possible and therefore substituted the normal stainless steel fittings for aluminium bronze beautifully crafted by the chaps at Hercules in Dartmouth.
With her launch aimed for early May, she will be moved from Totnes to Chichester, before taking up her berth in South West Brittany later in the summer. A pure gem of a boat for a very proud owner.
