Work has begun on replacing the complete rig for this American Classic
This Classic 1920 John G. Alden yawl is currently mid way through an extensive restoration and refit at Gweek Quay Boatyard in Cornwall. Chief Ivanhoe, built in America and launched in 1930, she is one of 7 similar sister ships and in her youth notched up a prestigious and well documented racing history.
As she has been out of commission since 2003, her current owners, Clive and Gillian Emerson of Gweek Quay decided to replace the entire rig with new Columbian Pine spars whilst utilising as many of the original fittings as possible. Due to be launched spring 2009, Collars are currently mid way through the project and with the smaller spars complete work has started on the 70' main mast.
