Spars for Classic Fife Yacht 'Kismet' now underway
Originally launched in 1898 the classic 50’ Fife Kismet has spent her last 50 or years lying in an Essex mud birth untouched.Having last sailing in a regatta in 1948 before being laid up she caught the eye of Richard Matthews, owner of Oyster Marine and Southampton Yacht Services, where by she was pulled from the mud and taken to the shipwright Adrian Wombwell for a complete restoration.
With a new rig design and drawn up by David Cooper of Holam and Pye she will carry all new spars manufactured in Oregon Pine and be traditionally rigged. Collars have been commissioned to supply all spars, dressed and varnished, ready for launch in the early part of 2009. More details and photos to follow over the coming months.
